Have your say on the future of the Jewellery Quarter!

Residents and businesses in the Jewellery Quarter are being given the opportunity to develop a Neighbourhood Plan to help improve the area.

Neighbourhood Plans, which were recently introduced in the Localism Act, are designed to give local people a much greater ability to decide the future of the places that they live in which they live and/or work.

The JQDT, in partnership with The Prince’s Foundation for the Built Environment, will be considering all the important issues relating to the development and regeneration of the Quarter at a series of Neighbourhood Planning events from 19thto 21st March. The events will be held at MADE offices, 7 Newhall Square.

What are Neighbourhood Plans and why should you get involved?

Prepared by a community, a Neighbourhood Plan can address issues such as where new development should take place; what improvements are needed to roads, footpaths and cycle routes; and how the housing needs of the local community should be met.

Local people will also be able to influence the:

The Neighbourhood Plan process is your opportunity as a resident or business owner to influence the future development of the Jewellery Quarter.

The area to be covered is illustrated in the map, showing the area known as the Industrial Middle. It is envisaged that the plans made with regards to the Industrial Middle can be applied to the rest of the Quarter in the long term.

As part of this process, you are invited to attend the following public sessions:

Monday 19th March, 7pm

This is your opportunity to find out about Neighbourhood Planning and what the project is trying to achieve. You will also be able to share your concerns and aspirations and feed into the design brief for the Neighbourhood Plan.

Wednesday 21st March, 5.30pm

This public open meeting is an opportunity to hear about and comment on the outcomes and recommendations from Monday’s event and Tuesday’s internal workshop, including design ideas for possible changes in the short, medium and long term.

The Neighbourhood Planning events will be run by The Prince’s Foundation for the Built Environment, who is providing support to the JQDT under the scheme funded by the Department for Communities and Local Government.

The Prince’s Foundation will host a workshop for invited stakeholders, partners and local representatives on Tuesday 20th March. The group will meet to consider the issues and aspirations for the Quarter in more detail, and discuss how they can be translated into proposals for change.

We need your help to gather ideas for the Quarter that can be delivered in the short, medium and long term. Please download, fill in and bring this questionnaire with you to the initial public event on the 19th March.
